insignificant. i thought of him in that little pearl of wisdom while reflecting on the death of chuck brown. so much has been written about chuck's influence on the music and temper of this town but it was donny simpson who in his own way probably put it best when he said when it comes to representing d.c. you got the washington monument, the big chair, and chuck brown. the chili bowl. here is where it gets good. in terms of music and musician whos have shaped the landscape chuck brown is part of a long, long line of giants. folks in detroit and philly love to brag about the enormous contribution their natives have made to the national musical tapestry. they are not to be denied. but neither are we. folks in d.c., we have been blessed with an abundance of musical genius that covers nearly the entire music spectrum from a back yard bucket to lewo inn and we're not new at this. two centuries ago john philips sousa put a lump in every patriot's throat with the stars and stripes forever. born right here. over in virginia there stands that pentagon. a pentagon of locally born or nurtured talent. in
